House of Bac Lieu Prince was originally built in 1919 as a mansion for the playboy "Prince of Bac Lieu" Trần Trinh Huy, who was a son and the heir to one of the wealthiest family in Bac Lieu at the time. Most of raw building materials were imported from Paris such as cast steel, stone tiles, bricks, decorative iron frames. After completion, this French-style villa was considered as the most luxurious and the largest house in the South region of Vietnam at that time.
Today, Bac Lieu mansion is partly hotel and restaurant to allow visitors to experience the lavish lifestyle of the spendthrift son, and partly museum to display many rare and precious furniture and special collections of Tran Trinh Huy’s family.
