Part of the Natural Park Nera-Beusnita, Bigăr Cascade Falls is a protected nature reserve located in Bozovici, Caraș-Severin County in southwestern Romania. Bigăr Waterfall was considered one of the most unusual and beautiful waterfalls in the world due to the way the water spreads and falls in tiny shreds of stream, and also the fact that it is located exactly on the 45th parallel north, at the halfway point between the Equator and the North Pole.
Unfortunately, on June 7th 2021, Romsilva National Forest Directorate announced that the waterfall has collapsed due to natural causes. Because of the travertine and muscles that have accumulated over time have increased in size and weight, the waterfall gave way under its own weight.
