This is a fairly easy hike until you start the climb to the falls. It gets abut technical as you traverse some stone steps and do a bit of rock scrambling. The return trip is almost all downhill. Poles are a help on the Rocky parts.
The trail traverses meadows, woodlands with pine and aspen on the way to a decent sized waterfall. You can continue up past the base of the falls to see them cascade down from the rocks above. No point in continuing past the upper part of the falls as best we could tell.
The hike begins at the McGraw Ranch complex at the cow creek trailhead in RMNP.
There are 18 parking spots. We got one of the last 2 spots at 8:45am on a Monday. Get there by 7:30 or after 5.
This trip was in mid July and the wildflowers and butterflies were out in force. We saw over 20 different types of wild flowers and 8-12 different butterflies.
Looks like this would be an easy fall color hike. It is also a refuge for elk and bighorn sheep in the winter.
