In 1992, the Hermione-Lafayette association was born on the initiative of a group of maritime history enthusiasts with the objective of the identical reconstruction of a frigate from the end of the 18th century in the heart of the historic arsenal in Rochefort. The reconstruction of this emblematic 18th century ship is part of this reconquest of a maritime heritage which has shaped and marked the identity of an entire territory for more than two centuries.
Since the end of its reconstruction, L'Hermione has sailed and visited many cities. Even today, the will to sail is there and the Hermione - La Fayette Association, owner and owner of the ship, has the ambition to sail the frigate in the best possible conditions.
Between each sailing, L'Hermione returns to Rochefort, the Arsenal which has seen it born twice and which remains its home port. On the site of its reconstruction, in the heart of the Arsenal des Mers, it is still possible to discover the crafts necessary to keep the frigate in perfect seaworthy condition.
