Hudson Yards

Things to do in New York City | New York | United States

Hudson Yards is a 28-acre (11 ha) real estate development in the Chelsea and Hudson Yards neighborhoods of Manhattan, New York City. Upon completion, 13 of the 16 planned structures on the West Site and Midtown South would sit on a platform built over the West Side Yard, a storage yard for Long Island Rail Road trains. The first of its two phases, opened in 2019, comprises a public green space and eight structures that contain residences, a hotel, office buildings, a mall, and a cultural facility. The second phase, on which construction has not started as of 2020, will include residential space, an office building, and a school. (Wikipedia)

Traveler Notes

A cool stop in the Hudson Yards mall that you shouldn’t miss: the creative wall covered in sequin patches. You can run your hand across and flip over the tiny sequin pieces. Because the back of the sequin pieces carries a different color from the front, it creates a contrast as if you are writing or drawing on the wall. Then running your hand across in the opposite direction, you can flip back the sequin pieces and erase everything you have just created. So you can do it over and over again with endless possibility!

After enjoying a lovely breakfast it was just a short walk to The Vessel...the extraordinary new centrepiece of Hudson Yards. We had pre-booked tickets for an 11 o’clock visit and as we climbed the intricately interconnecting staircases of this unique landmark, we enjoyed new perspectives of the city from the different heights, angles and vantage points offered by the 80 landings.

The iconic structure at Hudson Yards. You can climb up if you book specific time in advance and the tickers are free!

The best angle to take photos are from one of the restaurants inside the mall or from the terrace of the Equinox hotel.
