Ihwa Mural Village is known as a moon village due to being set high on the hillside with clear views of the moon. Be prepared for a 10-minute uphill hike along Seoul city wall if you want to visit this place but we think it's totally worth it. The village is actually one of Seoul's oldest neighborhoods and was once designated for demolition. Fortunately, the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism launched the campaign "Ihwa-dong Naksan Project" in 2006 as an effort to revitalize the village with artwork, paintings, drawings and murals of over 70 artists. The revitalization also brought in lots of cute cafes and boutique shops shortly after the murals were erected. Today Ihwa Mural Village has become a popular destination for both locals and international tourists to admire the murals and the scenic views of the city.
