Liberty Island

Things to do in New York City | New York | United States

Liberty Island is home to the Statue of Liberty, a large statue by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi that was dedicated in 1886. The island also contains the Statue of Liberty Museum, which opened in 2019 and exhibits the statue's original torch.

Two ferry slips are located at the southwestern side of Liberty Island. No charge is made for entrance to the Statue of Liberty National Monument, but there is a cost for the ferry service. Statue Cruises is the official operator of the transportation and ticketing facilities for the ferry services, departing from Liberty State Park in Jersey City and the Battery Park in Lower Manhattan.

Traveler Notes

First time seeing the Statue of Liberty up close!! I loved the experience. I liked taking the ferry over and looking around on the island. Of course, I couldn’t leave NYC w/o seeing her. I unfortunately did not get a chance to look at the view from her crown. But it was okay, because I got to see her and it was a very fun experience.
