The Baptismal Site of Jesus Christ is a sacred spot dedicated to Jesus on the east bank of the Jordan River, with hermits' caves, monastery ruins, and churches. Also known as Al-Maghtas or Baptism Site "Bethany Beyond the Jordan", the site is an archaeological World Heritage site in Jordan. It is considered to be the original location of the Baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist and venerated as such since at least the Byzantine period.
