Located along the west bank of the Huangpu River, the Bund is a packed waterfront promenade dotted with stately colonial-era buildings from the former Shanghai International Settlement. The Bund gets sweeping views of the modern skyscrapers in Pudong District, the other side of the Huangpu River. The stark contrast between the old and the new from the two sides of the river is what draws millions of visitors every year to this top attraction in Shanghai. Nanjing Road, the city's main pedestrain-only shopping street, starts from the Bund's centerpoint at Peace Hotel and heads west from there.
