The Royal Palace is one of Norway's most important buildings, and a concrete symbol of the course of Norwegian history since 1814. Originally built as a residence for King Carl Johan, the palace was not completed until after his death in 1844. Today the palace is where the daily work of the monarchy is conducted and where the King and Queen live. The Royal Palace is open to the public during the summer season. Don't miss the free event of Change of the Guard that takes place at 1:30 p.m. daily.
