Uluwatu Temple

Things to do in Badung Regency | Bali | Indonesia

Also known as Pura Luhur Uluwatu, Uluwatu Temple is one of the 6 key temples in Bali. It is perched on a tall cliff edge and offers dramatic sunset views and a Kecak fire dance performance at the nearby amphitheater. It is worth mentioning that the waves below the cliff are one of the best surf spots on the island. During your visit, expect to see traditionally-designed gateways and ancient sculptures. Keep in mind that all visitors need to wear a sarong and a sash that are available at the entrance to the temple.

Uluwatu Temple is recognized in Hoptale's First-Time Visitor Guides as one of the top things to do in Bali.

Traveler Notes

“Ulu” means “superior” and “watu” means, “rock”.

Uluwatu Temple is one of the 6 temples regarded as spiritual pillars of Bali, built on a cliff about 70 meters above the sea.

Balinese believe that here is where the three divine powers of Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma meet.
