Our anniversary today and Dave is back to work 😢 he got up early to start and the kids and I headed to heritage park in Gordi. A slightly mixed weather day but we enjoyed looking at all tte old cars and buildings/shops, watching sone plays, riding the train and playing in the park and on the old fairground rides. A full day adventure and home to see daddy and for a Spag Bol dinner-we managed a celebratory post dinner drink at a Kensington Pub!
Today was a lovely sunny day so the kids and I headed to bowness park to go in their wading pool, only to find out it doesn’t open until Saturday. We played in the playgrounds and had a little wander then drove to a spray park to cool off before heading back to the apartment for chill/nap/dinner prep.
Another hot and sunny day and a walk to prunes disk and park down Kensington high street, along the Bow river and across peace bridge-a beautiful walk.
We stopped off for a coffee and cinnamon bun at Alforno restaurant, yum!
We made it to the hot and sunny park, kids enjoyed playing with the train and floor pebbles. Stayed for a couple of hours and headed back over the river and through sunnyside to go a loop back to our apartment for lunch.
After nap time we convinced daddy to join us for a trip to Riley park wading pool. Lovely hot and sunny.
A wet grey day today so a trip on the C-train into downtown. We started with a play at the library and then a walk on the ‘sky walks’-lots of interconnecting walkways on level +15 between lots of different buildings. It was great fun and a brilliant way to avoid the rain. We made it to the indoor garden and playground in the TD building-Devonian garden. Had a play, a double wee and lunch then headed back to the apartment. We enjoyed it so much that we took daddy back later after work!
Another rainy day today so we headed to a locals recommendation of the sky castle-this was on the northern edge of the city-quite a drive in a weird mall. The whole of the top level was taken over by a kids play area, it was pretty epic-Ringo slides, ball cannons, loads of slides and soft play areas. Tte kids loved it and we managed 4 hours 🤪 we had a car picnic on the way home and a nap for Orla and a chill for us!
As it was Friday night we headed into downtown on the C-train with Dadfy after work and headed to a rooftop bar for a cocktail and starter and then to a steak house for dinner-a late night and very full tummy’s!
A beautiful sunny day and a trip out to the dinosaur capital of the world-Drumheller, home to the most dinosaur fossils found. It’s a 90minute drive from Calgary through the prairies and ranches so a welcome stop at horseshoe canyon where the prairie’s (grassland) meet the badlands!
A little further up the road and done dinosaur spotting, climbing and splashing plus climbing to the top of the worlds largest dinosaur much to Freddie’s excitement.
Our next stop was the amazing museum of paleantology. Loads of real dinosaur fossils and models and lots of interactive exhibitions. Freddie enjoyed making his own dinosaur and Orla loved seeing how big she was next to a T-Rex leg!
Orla fell asleep in the car so we had a brief stop at the hoo doos, I walked up to the top to look over the valley-amazing desert landscape.
Then the journey home, a trip to the park with daddy whilst I made tacos for dinner which we ate on the balcony and then had a disco party.
Our last day in Kensington today before we move closer to the airport. Another sunny day do an early morning walk over to princes island park via Alforno. Dave went ahead to pack things up and we had a slow stroll back via the love swings! Orla no Freddie helped with packing up as per normal-oven gloves a necessity.
We left Kensington and headed to the wading pool, lazy river and splash park at prairie winds park. Hot and sunny but freezing water. Lovely to cool off and have some fun in the water. We then checked into our last air bnb apartment in a rather soulless newly built town on the northern edge of Calgary (close to the airport). It was very hot but suited us perfectly.
