Cayucos is a cute little beach town in central California, halfway between Los Angelos and San Francisco. It’s close to Morry Bay and Hearst Castle.
In terms of lodging options, there are a few inns and B&Bs along the main commercial street, Ocean Avenue. We opted for Airbnb and were lucky enough to find an oceanfront apartment. The apt had unobstructed ocean view and direct beach access (the photo posted was taken right in front). The view was truly amazing and the host was so thoughtful in every little way possible to make our stay enjoyable.
We would have never heard about Cayucos if not for our friend’s wedding. But it is a great weekend destination for quiet escapes. We loved dolphin watching with a glass of wine in the oceanfront porch or taking a stroll on the sand while picking out our favorite beach houses along the walk.

Hearst Castle is probably the most famous attraction in this area. It was the lavish estate of the late publishing tycoon, William Randolph Hearst. To tour the estate, you have to book one of the guided tours and ride the provided bus to the top of hills where the castle is located. Once you are done with tour, you are free to roam outside in the gardens.
