Located in the Peruvian Andes at an altitude of around 3,400m above sea level, Cusco is referred to as the 'Navel of the World' to the Incan people and became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983.
Once the capital of the Inca Empire, it is now a super charming city riddled with contrasts between the indigenous styles, Spanish colonial architecture, and the modern western world; and is filled with culture, vibrancy, history, delicious cuisine, and stunning surroundings.
Cusco is like a world’s fair of people and you will literally meet people from all over the world as the city attracts so many looking for a specific type of “spiritual journey”.
A lot of the visitors come here initially for Machu Picchu, but end up getting seduced by this vibrant city thus staying longer especially that the area has a lot to offer.
It can be a great home-base for exploring this stunning region of the Andes.
If you’re not familiar with elevations, you'll immediately notice the thin clear mountain air, a result of the City's high altitude.
Once you are acclimatized, wandering the old cobblestone streets for hours or days is a great way to get the feel for the city and beyond.
Other than main Highlights of the nearby Inca Ruins and attractions; Cusco is also a popular place for Ayahuasca seekers. You’ll find plenty of centers offering this healing experience amongst some of the best Shamans in the country.
