And off we go. From Lyon, France to the first step: Como, Italy. And now passing through Chambéry, France.
Getting to the Airbnb we discover this cutest little apartment, with even a local wine, offered by the host. The apartment is very near from the lake.
Typical and amazing little dinner. Italian food !
The day stars well: I break a glass at the apartment... since I don’t know how much it costs and I don’t wanna leave coins, I leave €5 with a little sorry-note
We finally get to our main destination: Mojstrana, Slovenia. This camping (Kamne) is our absolute favorite, as it is held by adorable hosts, and the venue itself is great. Too tired to actually camp with tents, we get a bungalow, from which the view is breathtaking, on the mountains.
First full day in Slovenia, and we start with a little hike out of Mojstrana. Starting in the woods...
And little by little, we discover beautiful views of the valley ! The weather is clear on one side, and cloudy on the other! That makes the scenery very dramatic!
After a day-long hike, back to the camping for rest, sunset watching, and dinner.
Good morning Slovenia ! Ready for one more day of adventure?!
The Predjama Castle.... such a beautiful place. It is literally a castle built inside (and outside) of a cave ! It was built as a tiny castle to protect its inhabitants from a barbaric middle age world, and soon was upgraded, century after century, in what is now this huge building. It became a museum that shows the life inside as it was back in the days. We can even enter the troglodyte part, that is completely inside the cave. You could walk through it for 14 kilometers!
Later in the day, we get to Postojna, where lay underground the biggest and oldest natural caves in Europe. There is no word to describe it. After a quick local delicacy stop (Gebaniča), we enter the caves for one hour and a half. The stalagmites and stalactites are huge, as they are million years old. And the shapes vary from little elves to massive organs, or even Ancient Greece temple columns ! Breathtaking, and highly recommended!!
On the way to Koper, the port down south, we stopped at a castle, very uncommon. It was old and at the same time very well taken care of. The village it was in had a really medieval touch. My favorite part of the castle was the little pond right next to it.
Koper is the one and only port of the country. We need to understand that Slovenia is a very small country, and that they only have a few kilometers of sea, right between Italy and Croatia. The history is quite important in this town, and we can definitely see some major periods in the architectures displayed. Also, there is a cargo port (the only one in the country).
Morning view before we hit to road to go to the famous Bled Lake and the little island that’s in the middle !
The most picturesque stop this trip I believe. I am in absolute love with this place. The lighting, the place, the colors.... everything is just perfect ! In the middle of the lake, there is an island, on which is built a church ! It is a very popular tourist attraction to go on it by boat. And the boats are manual, and very cute !
After riding the boat “Sonja”, we made it to the island in the middle of the lake. We are explained that when a wedding is taking place here, the groom has to carry the bride from the bottom of the stairs to the top, and out of the 100 steps, the amount he manages to go up are the number of years their mariage is going to last ! Lol
