A lovely boutique hotel secluded in the lush greenery of a tea estate! Pretty grounds, spacious villas, stylish interiors ... great for couples!
Ran into a few school boys that want to practice English with us
Fun activity to see the largely untouched rural parts of the area (which is mostly rice pads villages). The bike tour we booked didn’t have a guide and we didn’t have to follow a group either. They just gave us the bikes and showed us an easy-to-follow route. We went at our own pace and stopped whenever we wanted. Local kids waved and shouted "Hi" to us as we rode by. Whenever we shouted back, they would giggle and follow after our bikes. We really enjoyed this bike tour!
Tea trails to Sri Lanka is like vineyards to France. The Handunugoda Tea Estate, famous for its speciality white tea, is not far from our hotel. We walked the tea trails, toured the factory, and had a sample tasting.
Stilt fishing is a method of fishing unique to Sri Lanka. Fishermen sit high on stilts (vertical sticks with an attached crossbars) and dangle fishing rods into the ocean. It’s a dying tradition today and most stilt fishermen you encounter in Sri Lanka now are imposters trying to profit from tourists.
