Taj Mahal was on our bucket list. We usually have distinct lists, but the Taj Mahal was unanimous. Our guide took us the gardens of Taj Mahal. We learned that the fifth Moghul Emperor, had this jaw dropping architectural marvel, to house the tomb of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. The tomb of the Emperor, Shah Jahan, is also housed here. What an amazing tribute to his wife. Tomorrow, we get the privilege of going inside.

Day 21: 🇮🇳 Agra, India 🇮🇳
The Taj Mahal is a mausoleum for the favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal, of the 5th Mughal Emperor of India. She wanted a palace built for her, but she died before the emperor could build one for her. Instead, he had this incredible mausoleum built for her. It took over 20,000 artisans over 22 years to build this Hindu-Islamic architectural masterpiece. It is made of white marble with inlay of precious/semi-precious stones such as jasper, malachite, onyx, carnelian, blue lapiz, and garnet arranged in various designs such as flowers, hearts, and many other intricate designs. 😯 Unsurprisingly, the Taj Mahal is one of the seven wonders of the world, and a UNESCO Heritage Site.
