we checked in the boat here....
In the airport we took a taxi to get to the port in Trapani, a sailing boat was waiting for us there. the name of the boat was Palmira. the problem was that we didn’t really know where the boat was exactly. And the port was quit big. Later we understood that the taxi driver left us in the beginning of the port ant the boat was somewhere in the end of the port. It was night. we were tired after long road there, with heavy bags, feeling hunger and thirst. we had to walk along all the port to find the boat because the owner of Palmira didn't response us by phone, we called him to get information about the exact location of Palmira. It wasn’t a surprise as it was night. i remember that i began to feel irritation, anger, and something else.. as we were going and going and no green light was on our way. I was so tired. I almost forgot that i had just arrived in sunny Italy, the farther we were going the more unpleasant things we met. such as too many drank men, lots and lots of litter, homeless dogs, scary and disgusting smells, loud music from night clubs nearby. was that the Italy i d heard about? of course not. It was just my tired feelings or maybe something else.... but i am getting too much ahead...
Finally we found the boat, and thank God boatswain was there not sleeping, so he opened the gate and we got into our boat. we ate something, had some tea and went to bed looking forward to the adventure that was waiting us...
Our main goal was to sail Palmira from Italy to Greece, that’s why we were there.
In the morning we went to buy some food and a girl was to Join us, she was an acquainted of the boat owner, a traveller with experience. She was a pleasant woman, easy going, with lots of stories to tell. So while waiting to her we decided to drink some fresh coffee and to look around, to feel Italian vibes.
Our first stop.
Here we stayed in local marine, and had a wonderful walk around the town. I noticed how tourists and citizens mixed there. From one side cafes and touristic shops, some steps farther and you could see private flat, where a family was having dinner in the middle of the room, watching TV, enjoying fresh wind coming from the sea in the evening. An interesting decision to put curtains outside the door. was it to prevent heat coming in, or mosquitoes i dont know...
there were many tourists, despite the fact the season ended a month ago. there were also many boats. So after the walk we went to boat to have some rest, and early in the morning continue our journey. Now there were three of us on Palmira
Our second stop.
We were sailing all day long, under stunning sun, and salted air. I can feel the wind kissing my skin even now. I enjoyed every minute of our trip, blue waters, clear sky, sails, young and beautiful us... So next stop was Terasini, we came there in the evening. In Marine were two boats only, ours and guys’ from Poland. After having dinner on the boat we decided to walk around the town. The town was so much alive, i mean so many people were walking and having fun, music all around, young men and women flirting with each other, everyone were so beautiful, so attractive, and so i couldn’t stop watching them... they all were happy there. Just like we were. Amazing feeling, strongly recommend. Nice town, many cafes, we tried a tasty kebab there, or if being precise Andrew wished to eat this dish ( yes, after dinner he can have one more dinner:) ), and i had a small bite only)) i refused to buy it, but after tasting i felt sorrow about refusing. but we had already gone away from the cafe. I dreamt about that kebab all night long, later i understood why my desire was so strong ,.. so when we came back to the boat, i realized that i couldnt sleep... noise, loud music, mosquitoes, water guggle ,... but anyway, i was happy. in the morning we were waiting one more guy to arrive. So our dream team would be completed.
We woke up, had a quick but tasty breakfast, with fresh coffee, and me and Andrew (my husband if so) started to prepare for going to the airport. Olga, if you remember our third companion, decided to wait us resting on the beach and it was a good decision. Our navigator showed us that it was 30 minutes of a walk. It was nothing for us. So we decided to go to the airport to meet Andrew’s brother. But before that we went to buy kebab for me, to that cafe, you remember right?)) i dreamt about kebab all night long... but it was SIESTA, we forgot about this peculiarity of local schedule... i was disappointed almost to tears (😅😅). The heat was coming. and we were going. 30 minute passed. no airports... one hour... still no airports..1,5 hours left.... no taxes, no souls even... the road was so long and strange... from right hand were huge and beautiful villas, with barking dogs inside... but from left side... there were dirty lands, litter, cows and their sh”t, dead animals somewhere in the bushes and the appropriate smell was all around.. “Italy, is that you? “i was thinking... we drank all water... and began to drink beer 😂 there was only one small bottle just as souvenir for Yura , but we drank it yeah..sorry, Yura. taxi didnt want to pick us... i dont know why ...heat... after 2 or 3 hours of walking (instead of 30 minutes) under that sun, i was ready to kill somebody if i had any power... but i just sat in the chair in the airport and wasnt able to say a word. On our way back we took a taxi of course and when we reached our marine i dived into the blessing waters... fresh waters, livening waters... than i had a quick nap in my cabin... We continued our jorney, and next stop was Palermo. We came there in late evening and nobody had any power to investigate the town.. so we had a rest, and in the morning we went farther. next stop should be Chefalu.
Stayed there just for one night. To have a rest and continue the path
I write all notes too quickly to think about mistakes and correctiveness of writing. it is not an excuse but still... sorry.
we came to that town early in the evening and i decided to put on the only one dress i took. i had a strong feeling that i want to look like a classic girl, girl in a dress, so soft and fragile.
so we came and moored just on the opposite side of a huge catamaran. The price to stay for it was 100€ per night. 😬
so we get dressed, full-filled the water tank and went to explore the town. A small car looked like a car for golf players picked us up and brought to the top of the hill. And we continued our journey walking. There were so many souvenir shops, and tourists. and cafes, busy with all those tourists. Nice town. in the evening lights gave a special atmosphere to the town. we decided to eat and drink something. I looked through the menu and understood that i didn't what anything that they offered, especially for such high price. but we were looking for free table so long, so there were no garantee that we would find another place to sit and eat. so we had to stay. i wasn’t in a good mood. maybe tired maybe hungry, God only knew. Then we walked along the beach, the weather was windy, we were going to the shop, to buy food on the boat. While walking i understood that i have a delay... of those women days, u know...
I said Andrew that i should buy a pregnancy test. I didnt feel any worry or something. it was something very regular for us, as we had already planned a baby for a long time, but failed failed and failed... Even before going to this jorney, in Minsk i had done the test, and it was negative. i had done it, as i knew that our trip would be very active, and that in case we succeded and i would have been pregnant i should stay at home. So than, in Chefalu, we bought a pregnancy test just as regular action, to check our fresh failor one more time. After shopping we took a taxi. I remember that we enjoyed pleasant music all way long... i dont remember what was exactly playing, something in Italian. When we came back i decided to do the test in the morning. As in the evening i felt myself not ready for bad news.
That evening we were talking in the boat discussing different topics, telling stories, enjoying life and drinking Lemonchela... except me, i didnt like the taste, it was too strong for me..
We woke up at 7 am, and at 7:30 we were leaving Cefalu...
The day was amazing as always, sunny, and full of joy.
passing Reitano province i did a pregnancy test and it was positive!
I was surprised, shocked, happy, and at the same time scared, as it was just a beginning of our long trip, i should be very careful now.
I told the news Andrew, both of us were happy but didnt realise it fully, as it sounds as something miracle and fairy
Anyway, the trip was going on and next stop was Milazzo, we came there at 8:30 pm. Nice marina. Many many fat cats, as fishermen fid them regularly. And boatswain’s dog as a boss. It was the first who met us while we were mooring.
Before sleep we had a small walk in the town. But it wasn't so alive as previous towns. with night coming people hid in their houses. Not much tourists. cafes closed. perhaps we entered not a touristic part of the town.
next stop: at least somewhere.
In the morning we decided to give Milazzo another chance to open up, and after paying for the mooring, we went to look for where we could buy a SIM card with unlimited internet, where to have breakfast and just see the views. We had already moved away from the marina, when suddenly I was attacked by a persistent desire to vomit ... By the way, it is not typical for me at all, even if it makes me feel sea sick, I just feel bad, but never so that I can turn myself out. the stomach always keeps everything to itself. I looked for an urn to do this dirty little business as decently as possible. I didn’t know what it was. Maybe toxicosis, maybe we didn’t have breakfast, maybe after the boat swaying for a long time, we set foot on land. I don't know ... after breathing it all ended as suddenly as it began.
we found a cafe, drank tea and coffee there, had a snack and went on business deals. found a port from where huge liners deliver people to the islands, according to the schedule. We decided to visit the islands next time ...
returned to the boat, the sun was beginning to bake well ... the goal for today was Napaleon's, to cross the Strait of Messina. This is the isthmus that separates Sicily and Italy ... We got there by sunset, when we started to cross - the dark already had come..We walked in accordance with all maritime rules, traffic turned out to be busy. the whole team was as focused and tense as possible.
At night, the lights from the land merge with the carabble lights, so only navigation helped. and now, according to navigation and sensations, a huge house was moving towards us. It was not entirely clear whether it was moving quickly or slowly, but we knew that for large liners, when leaving in front and behind, accompanying boats go, they warn and disperse small boatmen, like us. but there was no one, so Andrew continued his movement forward ...
But the feeling that the mountain was hanging over us did not go away. And the liner began to honk. Loud, threatening, scary. One, two, three times..
"Andrey,* further goes untranslatable text of rude words* turn right “
we shouted to him and maybe even someone from the land ... Andrew did not hesitate to sharply to the right, after a couple of minutes a skyscraper passed by us ... the liner was so huge that it seemed to us that at the top he even had a church installed.
Then swearing followed! everyone scolded each other that Andrew was waiting for the accompanying boat, that Yura did not do something on time, that something was necessary, and something another was not always according to the rules, etc.
Letting off steam, we calmed down and after passing the strait decided to look for where to moor. there was nothing nearby. forces were running out. anchored. No one could fall asleep, everything was seething, bubbling, bubbling and ringing. A small marina was found on the map. But on the very approach to it, the engine stalled. what was wrong wasnt clear, the guys figured out with their last bit of strength for another 30 minutes. all perfectly done. moored and each fell without asleep in each own cabin ...
In the morning we woke up early, the way was long, and according to the forecast - no wind, calm ... it means - go on the motor. we wanted to pay for the mooring, but the marina turned out to be wild or so, we did not find anyone, decided to leave wothout paying.
what could have happened in the calm? roght, fuel run out. inflated the boat, attached the engine, left the yacht at anchor and moved to the shore for fuel. The sunset spilled over into an unrealistic palette. Everything was painted in delicate pink .. very beautiful. Brancaleone .. How it smelled of jasmine ... as if spirits were poured into all the streets .. jasmine village .. Jasmine houses, people, jasmine air .. The village turned out to be quite wild, everyone looked at us like at aliens rose from depth of the sea .. we moved to the gas station and then went to the store to buy potatoes.
Diesel, potatoes, sunset. what could be better? 👌🏻
And still such calm is a sign of what? that's right, storms! of course there wasnt a storm, or rather, it was but a few kilometers away from us. flashes of lightning were observed from afar, and the rain reached us with the wind. (although there was a clear starry sky above us) We arrived late. To the heavenly marina of Rocella Ionica, where you will find everything you need! And most importantly, the yacht stood as if on land - nothing rattled or swayed.
How are Guess, Tribord and Auchan Crocs related to each other? this is my hiking style for Rocella Ionika ... we were all day there, decided to have a rest on land... Marina was magical, the boats stood as if on the ground - no swaying and extraneous sounds. in the morning we rented bikes (5 € per person / day) and drove along the embankment. it was cool - pedaling and catching the sun wind in your hair. stopped, swam, talked with the local skipper (with a thick and abnormally black beard, he himself was still a little bit and ember. And he was also only in a hat and shorts. in general style.), he knew in Russian "hello-goodbye ”and he had classic nautical tattoos (steering wheel, seagull, anchor, and something else ..). Here Olga continued her own travelling without us by train.
drove on to the city. our regime still could not adapt to the local one. and we again got into a siesta, everything was closed. tightly. no cars, no people, just us. in the end, we still found where to eat, bought the world's smallest horn and drove to the medieval castle on the slope. We were greeted by a typical Italian, who thought that we would understand him if he started speaking more slowly) for the entrance we paid 3 € / person. The Castle was wonderful! Double-glazed windows, an elevator, toilets - everything was like in a medieval castle. yeah 😂 The main thing is, of course, the views from it. in the evening went to the laundress and washed everything that we could convey. In the evening i listened to the birds singing enjoying my wonderful life.
Next stop : Krotone.
lots of people were there. Most of them were teens. in the port we noticed small sport boats (470, others), we concluded that there had been a sailing school. we came here in the evening, and it was our stop before the longest trip of all, next day we should spend almost 12 hours sailing, in pure waters around us. It should be first experience for me. i was excited.
When we moored, we wanted to full-fill the gasoline tank, so called for a worker to do it. but he was in a bad mood, arguing with us, and saying we had moored wrongly and many other strange commentaries. We decided to make him a small present and gave him cans with fish taken from Russia, as a souvenir. He didnt expect that and all his irritation disappeared in a second, he even gifted us a bottle of vine later ). so kindness is always better.
The goal is to reach the so called heel of the Italian boot, and it meant long sailing path with no vision of land.
It was so hot. no Internet. just you, sails, wind, and freedom. We were fishing, caught some tuna. the we slept, ate, dreamt. We met the sunset, and then sailed in darkness. No light around you. The feeling of black hole under you. So i preferred to look in the sky, there were thousand of stars, twinkling... just amazing, i would love to repeat those feelings.
dont remember anything))) perhaps we just passed the point by...
Our last stop Kerkyra.
But before reaching the point, we ran out of gasoline just in some kilometres away from the marine. It was a very hot day, guys went on small boat to get the gasoline, while we stayed on the boat melting from heat... by the way Olya joined us again in Korfu. Just for couple of days.
In the end we reached the marine of Kerkyra... Mission was completed...
