We got so many deer visitors š¦ this morning! They are probably here for the wild blueberries. More ripened after the rain this week. One of the deers seemed to be an āalbinoā deer!
Our neighbor is a huge bike collector. He gave us a tour on his electric bikes. It was so much fun and we discovered some off the beaten path spots.
A pretty lily pond that are frequented by local painters.
A rocky beach but the view is nice. The weather changes so fast in Maine. When we got to the beach, it was very foggy and just when we decided to go back, it cleared up in less than 5 mins.
Mussels everywhere! We have never seen so many mussels in real life - they cling tightly to the rocks. Most of them are baby ones as only a small portion of the baby mussels survive to become big enough to eat. We turned the rocks upside down and spotted a few big ones. We took them home and cooked a nice āmussel mariniereā.
The prettiest harbor on Mount Desert Island in our opinion!
The prettiest town on MDI in our opinion :)
An old barn made out of stone (hence the name āStone Barnā). A picturesque spot frequented by local photographers to take engagement shots or family portraits.
Beautiful and excluded swimming pond. We spotted a couple of toads in the water that really scared the little one. She is definitely a city girl like her mom!
This is the largest swimming lake on MDI and it has a beach as well as public bathrooms. Very popular in the summer so could get over-crowded.
One of the 3 main botanic gardens on MDI (just re-opened in July after the covid shutdown). The garden itself is quite small but right next to the garden entrance, there is a short trail that leads to an overlook of Southwest Harbor. We were not lucky with the weather so the view was just soso.
