MORE OF QUITO 🇪🇨
Exploring a bit more of Quito, El Panecillo and further out to Pichincha Volcano and Mitad Del Mundo!
*El PANECILLO
El Panecillo (means small piece of bread in Spanish) is a 200-metre-high hill of volcanic-origin.
This hill makes an excellent observation point over Quito and features La Virgen del Panecillo, a 45-meter-tall majestic sculpture made from 7,000 pieces of Aluminum and which can be seen from almost any location in the city.
*PICHINCHA VOLCANO
A great way to see Quito is from above on top of Pichincha Volcano. The TelefériQo runs up its foothills and offers great view of Quito.
The cable car ride is around 10 minutes, and rises from 3,117m (10,226 ft) to 4,100m (13,451 ft) making it one of the highest aerial lifts in the world.
At the top you can continue on to hike the volcano or downhill MTB or just chill & enjoy the views.
It can get cold up there as the weather changes very quickly from sunny to compete cloudy in less than a minute.
*MITAD DEL MUNDO
Quito has become famous for the Mitad del Mundo aka "The Equator" which consists of one dominant monument marking the splitting line of the globe.
It's a cool attraction in Ecuador and is located around 20km outside of Quito.
It was discovered and mapped out by a French geodesic expedition team in 1736. Even though those early geographers were about 250 meters off the mark, it was an extraordinary feat at the time 😎
