Monticello is the home of Thomas Jefferson, the 3rd president and one of the founding fathers of the United States.
He was generally perceived as a good president. The ironic part is that he was the principal author of Declaration of Independence which states “all men are created equal”, yet he personally owned ~600 slaves and secretly fathered 6 children with one of them, Sally Hemings.
Highly recommend this tour. The tour guide was compassionate and thoughtful when discussing the controversial topic of slavery at Monticello.
A popular orchard for sunset events with live music on summer Wed and Thu. The food truck was also delicious.
Enjoyed a few more swimming & tennis sessions at the hotel’s sports club.
A quick rest stop on our drive from Charlottesville to Durham.
The museum is not big but well designed with interesting collections. A perfect indoor activity to escape the summer heat!
