Today was interesting. We got up and ready before meeting in the hotel library. We walked to the bus stop and boarded. We then got off at the Mater Hospital where we listened to two doctors, a research coordinator, and a genetic counselor. They talked to us about inherited metabolic diseases and how precision medicine impacts the care. We then left and went to high tea. We had to wear dresses while the guys were in suits. We each ordered our own tea and got our own tea pot. They gave us this tower of sweet and savory bites to eat that was split between two people. We then finished and went to another lecture. At this lecture we learned about the Irish healthcare system. Once finished we worked on comparing the two systems with our group before giving a presentation on survey findings.
We left for dinner after giving our presentations. We had a three course meal and a drink. I had a Charlie Chaplin, however they substituted brandy with rum (not what I wanted). I also ordered and appetizer called Fois Gras Parfait. I did not know what it was. After trying it I found out it’s a liver pudding with pine nuts, peaches, and chutney. I did not eat anymore after trying it. I had pepperoni pizza to follow and that was good. I then had banana rum cake with rum and raisin ice cream and a toffee drizzle. I did not enjoy the ice cream but the rest was good. We took a group picture at the end.
After dinner, my friend and I went to go see St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Sadly it was closed but we did walk around and marveled at the architecture and stain glass.
